Brand new Juventus coach Alberto Zaccheroni held his first press conference at the club's Vinovo training center and told the reporters in attendance : "It is time for Juventus to turn the page. I like challenges and a new era for the club has started. .... I am proud to have joined Juventus, one of the greatest clubs in the world. I am certain that I will bring improvement, this is not the first time I am working for a top club. I was at AC Milan a few years ago. .... I confide in the squad, there are great players at Juve and I consider them second to none. I spoke to them before my first training session and I was glad to see that they are motivated and ready to work hard like me - I expect them to be determined, talent is not enough to succeed. .... I think that the players are under-performing because of psychological reasons and the recurrent injuries. Since the beginning of the season and until now, previous coach Ciro Ferrara did not have the chance to field all the starters at once due to the fact that many of them were and still are injured. I will work on their psychological approach to matches and hopefully have less injuries .... I will bring some tactical changes. I usually field three defenders, but that is not a must for me. What matters first is the players' ability to adapt. The first step for me is to get more acquainted with the squad and see which formation will best suit their personality or style .... I hope to lead Juve to Champions League qualification by the end of this season, but that is the just one of our goals. I have signed until June, but I will try to earn a longer contract and stay next season too .... I saw Ciro Ferrara before training. We spoke, than he greeted the team - I was glad to see him. I am sure he had a the right ideas to succeed, but we all have to think forward now".
Juventus chairman Jean-Claude Blanc added that former coach Ciro Ferrara will remain at the club and soon work in an executive role as he is still considered a key figure.
